A nickname is usually a descriptive moniker given instead of, or in addition to, one’s formal name. It often describes an aspect of a person’s nature, accomplishments or appearance that carries a particular resonance. Some nicknames are the result of an individual’s achievements such as Alexander the Great or William the Conqueror. Others are given to reflect an aspect of a person’s character such as bravery.
